The present invention relates to a method for estimating alveolar bone density using cone beam CT and an apparatus thereof, which can estimate a bone density value more correctly and convert the bone density value in an image form to display the obtained CT image and the converted bone density image. To this end, the method for estimating alveolar bone density using cone beam CT is performed by an apparatus including a user input unit, an image acquiring unit, an image processing unit and a net display unit. The image acquiring unit (120) generates an X ray while rotating an arm member provided with an X ray generator and an X ray detector to obtain an X ray projection image from the X ray detector; generates an X ray with single energy to acquire and store the projection image or generates an X ray with low energy and an X ray with high energy sequentially or alternately to acquire the projection image and classify and store the projection image according to each energy; controls an X ray filter mechanism to use a filter appropriate for each of the X ray with single energy, the X ray with low energy and the X ray with high energy; makes X ray tube current as well as X ray tube voltage different when acquiring the projection image to sufficiently receive photons even at low energy; and reconfigures the classified projection images in CT images according to each energy to store the CT images at a storage medium.
