The present invention relates to a BCDA-based semi-alicyclic polyimide membrane material for gas separation and a method for preparing the same. The polyimide material prepared according to the present invention has high solubility in a casting solvent, particularly in a polar organic solvent, by interrupting asymmetry in a polyimide chain structure and formation of a polyimide complex compared with an aromatic polyimide, and has remarkably high heat resistance compared to the conventional aromatic polyimides and aliphatic polyimides. Accordingly, the polyimide material of the present invention is useful as the material can be easily processed into a high-selective permeable composite membrane or an asymmetric hollow fiber membrane, which is used for commercial purposes, and can be effectively used as a membrane for gas separation in various fields. In addition, the polyimide material membrane for gas separation is useful as the membrane has more excellent gas separation properties than the conventional commercialized aromatic polyimides or semi-alicyclic polyimides.
