COMPOSITION FOR PREVENTING OR TREATING SKIN PHOTOAGING COMPRISING WATER EXTRACTS OF SCUTELLARIA BARBATA D. DON

The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating skin photoaging caused by UV radiation, including a hydrothermal extract of Scutellaria barbata D. Don as an active ingredient. According to the present invention, it is shown that the hydrothermal extract of Scutellaria barbata D. Don is effective in enhancing the expression of procollagen synthesizing gene (procollagen type-1) in UVB-treated mouse skin fibroblasts (NIH 3T3 cells) and reducing the expression of extracellular matrix (ECM) decomposition enzyme (MMP-1), and can inhibit the expression of inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, IL-8) increased by treatment with UVB radiation. Therefore, the composition including the hydrothermal extract of Scutellaria barbata D. Don as an active ingredient can be used for preventing or treating photoaging caused by UV radiation.
