Machine vision system with computer-generated virtual reference objects

A machine vision system using a computer-generated virtual reference object is disclosed. When an exact measurement of the virtual reference object is known, the machine vision system can measure the difference on an absolute scale. In a machine vision system, a virtual reference object is created based on a computer drawing. The computer-generated virtual reference object is further processed to achieve high realistic accuracy. Processing may include combining portions from an image of a manufactured object or computationally generating an image that looks like a measured object. When the computer-generated virtual reference object is based on the model drawing, it does not include inaccuracies due to manufacturing tolerances.
