Disclosed is an intelligent electronic device and a sampling method for preventing malfunction of the intelligent electronic device. The intelligent electronic device according to an embodiment of the present invention includes an AD converter that converts an AC voltage of an EFT test power line or a distribution line connected to the grid power into a DC voltage, and a sampled voltage by varying the number of sampling or sampling timing of the AC voltage. It includes a control unit that sequentially compares and monitors values to determine whether surge voltage or impulse noise is input.It samples the analog AC voltage detected from distribution lines such as grid power lines using the Variable Sampling Method. Signal processing enables fast and accurate detection of surge voltage and impulse noise.
