The present invention relates to a composition for weight loss containing an Oenothera tetraptera extract or a fraction thereof as an active component. The composition for weight loss according to the present invention contains the Oenothera tetraptera extract or the fraction thereof as the active component, so as to induce weight loss through subcutaneous and intramuscular fat reduction in a short period, for a day or so, without cytotoxicity while maintaining the reduced weight for a long time. Especially, since the composition has a distinct effect by a water fraction of the extract, so as to be used without toxicity.
