A method for increasing a sewage treatment capacity according to increases in rainfall by using a bypass pipe installed in a sewage treatment plant can be provided. The method comprises the steps of: measuring the output of a pump connected to each of a plurality of transfer pipes while sewage flows into a first intermediate reservoir through the plurality of transfer pipes; calculating sewage flow introduced into the first intermediate reservoir and an increased rate of sewage flow; determining, with three levels, whether the introduced sewage flow exceeds a sewage storage threshold of the first intermediate reservoir, based on the increased rate of sewage flow; transferring 60% of the sewage stored in the first intermediate reservoir to the sewage treatment plant by using a first bypass pipe when the excess sewage flow is determined as a first level, and transferring the remainder 40% thereof to the sewage treatment plant by using a second bypass pipe installed around the outside of the sewage treatment plant; transferring the excess sewage to a second intermediate reservoir when the excess sewage is determined as a second level; and transferring the excess sewage to a simple sewage treatment facility, subjected to a simple filtration treatment, and discharging the same, when the excess sewage is determined as a third level. Therefore, by using the bypass pipes, the method can expand the treatment capacity of the sewage treatment facility during rainfall.
