The present invention features a number of methods for identifying one or more compounds that bind a biological target. The method includes the step of synthesizing a compound library, wherein the compound comprises a functional moiety having one or more diversity sites. The functional moiety of the compound is operatively linked to the starting oligonucleotide that confirms the structure of the functional moiety.
