It provides a method for suppressing an immune response. The method comprises administering isolated lymphoid tissue-derived inhibitory stromal cells (LSSC) to an individual in need of treatment in an amount effective to suppress an immune response in the individual. In addition, the present invention relates to a method for isolating LSSC by digesting a lymphoid tissue fragment using a combination of enzyme mix and agitation, and then collecting LSSC. Also provided is a pharmaceutical composition comprising LSSC.
