The present invention relates to a double polarized weather radar information-based technique of classifying hail and rainfall zones and estimating rainfall, and more specifically, provides the double polarized weather radar-based apparatus for estimating the rainfall by hail and rainfall zones and a method thereof. According to the present invention, the hail and rainfall zones are classified by using horizontal and differential reflection distributions among radar observation values, and convective and stratified zones are distinguished according to reflection intensity. Therefore, accuracy of hail and rainfall zone classification and rainfall intensity estimation is enhanced by applying a double polarization-based rainfall estimation relational formula for each type as a weighted average technique.
