Methods and compositions for treating diseased or damaged tissue, such as inflammatory bowel disease, such as ulcerative colitis, include tissue regeneration using stem cells or tissue grafts that promote stem cell migration to the damaged tissue. The tissue graft may be an extracellular matrix (ECM) material, such as a tissue-specific extracellular matrix (TS-ECM). The method may also include mucosal ablation of damaged or diseased tissue prior to placement of the graft.
