FIELD: construction.;SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in construction, operation and liquidation of surface storage of liquid wastes containing toxic or radioactive substances, as well as in treatment of contaminated water from surface water bodies. Method for protection of underground water from contamination from surface storage of liquid wastes containing toxic or radioactive substances involves creation on inner surface of storage of anti-filtration screen, supply of activated clay soil in amount of 10–15 kg per 1 m3 of liquid wastes to the storage after its filling with liquid wastes containing toxic or radioactive substances. Activation of clay soil is carried out by adding a solution of magnesium chloride, aluminum sulphate and iron sulphate at rate of 2.0–6.0 kg, 1.4–4.5 kg and 1–4.5 kg per 1 t of clay soil, followed by treatment lime milk in amount of 5–15 kg of calcium hydroxide per 1 ton of soil.;EFFECT: invention reduces content of contaminants in the liquid and improves the reliability of the anti-filtration screen by reducing the filtration coefficient.;1 cl, 1 tbl
