FIELD: machine building.;SUBSTANCE: invention relates to linear electric motors, and more specifically to electromagnetic accelerators of rail type, providing direct conversion of electric energy stored in a pulse source into kinetic energy of a thrown body. Proposed invention can be used in systems for acceleration of macrobodies (weight from several grams and higher) to high speeds intended for investigation of equation of state of materials at ultrahigh pressures developed at collision of missile body with target, physical simulation of the effect of micrometeorites on elements of space objects, studying processes of impact thermonuclear synthesis, outputting miniature satellites to low Earth orbit directly from its surface or aircraft side, as well as for various military purposes, including development of weapons for fighting armoured targets, antiaircraft and antimissile defence, long-range artillery marine weapons, and so forth. Rail electromagnetic accelerator consists of electric power source connected by current-conducting lines with switching device, barrel including current-conducting rails, inter-rail insulators, forming a channel, in which there is a projectile body with an armature commuting rails, and supporting inserts of insulating material, enclosed in a power shell, as well as a pre-accelerator, which provides the entrance of the projected body into the bore of the barrel at the moment when current starts flowing in it with initial speed. In order to increase output characteristics and resource of the barrel, the initial speed of the thrown body exceeds the critical speed of propagation of bending waves in rails, calculated from the ratio where E, ρ - Young's modulus and rail material density, respectively, F is cross-sectional area of rail, I is moment of inertia of cross-section per turn, k is modulus of elasticity of the base.;EFFECT: use of the proposed invention will allow avoiding resonance arising when the speed of the thrown body of the speed of bending waves propagation in the elements of the barrel design, reduce maximum stresses and displacements therein, and thus increase efficiency of acceleration process and increase service life of the barrel.;1 cl, 3 dwg
