Disclosed is a method of producing (-)-ambroxide or a mixture containing (-)-ambroxide, where mixture of isomers containing (3E, 7E)-homopharnesol (EEN)), enzymatically converted to (-)-ambroxide or into a mixture containing (-)-ambroxide, using a squalene-gopen-cyclase/homopharnesol-ambroxide-cyclase (SHC/HAC) enzyme, having a polypeptide sequence with at least 70 % identity with SEQ ID NO: 1, SEQ ID NO: 2, SEQ ID NO: 3 or SEQ ID NO: 4, in suitable reaction conditions.
