The present invention is intended to provide an apparatus and a method by which spectral measurements, e.g. the time-resolved fluorescence, on a layered object, in particular of the fundus, without the disturbing influence of spectral properties of upstream structures, in particular the anterior ocular media, can be realized. The device according to the invention comprises, in addition to the confocal detection beam path a second beam path for non-confocal detection of the disturbing fluorescent light upstream Structures (eg anterior ocular media). In this case, the field diaphragm for this purpose is arranged so far away from the confocal detection field stop that no light of the focal excitation impinges on its image on the fundus. During line-by-line confocally excited fluorescence of the fundus, the disturbing fluorescent light of the anterior ocular media is also recorded time-resolved on a line-by-line basis.
