A method for the detection of radar targets is described here. According to one exemplary embodiment, the method comprises providing a digital radar signal with a sequence of signal segments. Each signal segment of the sequence is assigned to a chirp of an emitted RF radar signal. The method further comprises the detection of one or more radar targets based on a first partial sequence of successive signal segments of the sequence. A distance value and a speed value are determined for each radar target detected. If a group of radar targets with overlapping signal components has been detected, a spectral value for each radar target of the group of radar targets is calculated based on a second partial sequence of the sequence of signal segments and further based on those for the group of radar targets determined speed values.
