The invention relates to a method for producing consisting of copper or a copper alloy, plate-shaped side walls (1) of a continuous casting mold, in particular for use in a CSP plant for thin slab casting, wherein the side walls (1) are formed with a wear-resistant portion, the extending from the outlet end (8) of the mold over part of the length of the mold side walls (1), and a side wall (1) of a continuous casting mold produced by the method. Therewith a mold having a long life and no need for post-processing of the wear resistant portion can be reached, the invention proposes that the wear-resistant portion in the form of a heat-resistant, wear-resistant steel block (9) is welded to the lower end of the copper block blank; and that the copper ingot blank is machined with the welded steel block to produce the finished side wall consisting of a machined copper plate and the welded steel block.
