Disclosed is a drive unit which has an axial piston pump and an electronic control unit. A swiveling of the axial piston pump is carried out using a method in which pressure reducing valves acting against one another are energized suddenly. Since no orifices are provided in this regard in the adjusting device, a so-called jump in the excitation current leads to a sudden reduction in the assigned signal pressure or the signal pressure difference formed therefrom. Then a zero crossing jump of the excitation current or the excitation currents is carried out in order to overcome the centering spring and thus to ensure a continuous zero crossing of the axial piston pump. Furthermore, a hydrostatic travel drive with such a drive unit is disclosed.
