The present invention relates to a LIDAR sensor. The LIDAR sensor comprises a light source which is set up to generate a light beam, and an outlet window which is set up to have the light beam transmitted into an environment of the LIDAR sensor. Furthermore, the LIDAR sensor comprises a receiving unit that is set up to provide information about the surroundings of the LIDAR sensor based on received reflections of the light beam. The LIDAR sensor further comprises a focus variable lens, which is arranged and set up between the light source and the outlet window to vary an intensity of the light beam depending on a control signal. Furthermore, the LIDAR sensor comprises a control circuit which is set up to generate the control signal for the focus variable lens based on an object recognized in the information about the surroundings of the LIDAR sensor.
