A housing (40) for a transmission (30) with a first housing part (41) and at least one second housing part (42) connectable therewith is described. At least the first housing part (41) is provided with means (70, 71, 72, 47) for locking the gear (30) in the first housing part (41) in the axial direction of the housing part (41) and for connecting at least one component (28 , 32, 34, 38) of the transmission (30) with the first housing part (41). In addition, the first housing part (41) has at least one assembly area via which the first housing part (41) can be handled during assembly together with the transmission (30) by means of a lifting device.
