The disclosure relates to an optical security feature based on alignment of mirrors or facets on a single axis in a structured surface forming a micromirror array. In one aspect, a device is described that includes a reflective structure on a first layer, the reflective structure having an upper surface with a plurality of embossed facets arranged in a spatial orientation that produces a flat-ring optical effect upon impact of light. In another aspect, a method of fabricating the device that provides a reflective layer and produces the reflective structure on the reflective layer with multiple facets disposed in the spatial orientation to create the optical flat ring effect is described. In yet another aspect, an apparatus for manufacturing the device is described that includes a pressing device and an embossing device to transfer a pattern of the reflective structure to a reflective material.
