A cooling system (1) is used to control the temperature of a data center (R), which has a primary heat exchanger (2) that extracts heat from the data center (R) and a housing (13 ), a fan (14) and two V-shaped cooling registers (15) having secondary heat exchangers (4). The primary heat exchanger (2) is embedded in a primary coolant circuit (I) and the secondary heat exchanger (4) is embedded in a secondary coolant circuit (II), between which a refrigerant compressor (8) and a refrigerant expansion unit (9) having compression refrigeration machine circuit (K) is switchable. A heat transfer from the primary coolant circuit (I) to the secondary coolant circuit (II) takes place in a first operating mode with the interposition of the compression refrigeration machine circuit (K) and in a second operating mode without interposition of the compression refrigeration machine circuit (K). The cooling registers (15) of the secondary heat exchanger (4) can be flown through in parallel in the first operating mode and in series in the second operating mode.
