A graphics processing pipeline includes three architectural features that enable a fragment shader to efficiently compute sample-specific attribute values using barycentric coordinates and point-specific attributes. The first feature is a barycentric coordinate feed to provide barycentric coordinates to the fragment shader. The second characteristic is an attribute identifier, which makes it possible to process an attribute of a graphic basic element without conventional fixed function interpolation. The third characteristic is a direct access path from the fragment shader to the hardware resources of the triangular data storage, in which point attribute data and / or level equation coefficients are stored. Allowing the fragment shader to calculate sample-specific attribute values in this way advantageously increases the flexibility of the system and at the same time reduces the workload associated with the formation of the triangular equations.
