An image generation device is provided which can immediately go into an idle state without determining the data of a piece counter from a machine controller to which the power supply is stopped. The image-forming device contains a printer unit and a control unit, which use the printer unit to determine data from a piece counter of at least one of a large number of components of the printer unit. The control unit determines whether communication with the printer unit is feasible when an idle transition factor is received that places the processing device in an idle state. If the control unit determines that communication with the printer unit can be carried out, the control unit determines the data of the piece counter of at least one of a plurality of components of the printer unit.
