This disclosure provides electrified vehicle power management for robust cold power discharge capability. A vehicle includes an internal combustion engine, a battery, and an electric machine configured to propel the vehicle and selectively coupled to the internal combustion engine to start the internal combustion engine, the internal combustion engine including a controller configured to provide an input, activate a cold weather mode, request in response that an expected ambient temperature is below a first temperature threshold value for a period in which a subsequent start of the internal combustion engine is anticipated, and operate the internal combustion engine and the electric machine to achieve a state of charge (SOC) maintain the battery above a first SOC threshold and a second SOC threshold that is less than the first SOC threshold otherwise in response to activation of the cold weather mode.
