PROCESS FOR MITIGATION OF ARTIFACTS RELATED TO BOW WAVES OR WAKES ON RADAR IMAGES OF A SHIP

This method of attenuating artefacts linked to bow waves or to the wake on radar images of a ship, characterized in that it comprises the steps of: acquiring a radar image (I (x, y)) d a ship, said acquired image being a Distance-Doppler image; extract from the radar image (I (x, y)) the or each artefact zone which corresponds to an artefact due to the bow waves or the wake of the ship, the extraction being based on the fact that the or each artefact zone (11, 12) extends in a strip parallel to the Doppler (y) axis, the extraction leading to an image of the artefact zones; develop a ship's mask; and attenuating the samples of the radar image (I (x, y)) which belong to the or each artifact zone of the image of the artifact zones and which lie outside the mask of the ship.
