The invention relates to a method for allocating an identifier to a first client node of a client domain, said first client node being capable of managing the traffic associated with said client domain with a view to protecting it against a computer attack, said method comprising: - receiving a request to allocate a client node identifier from the first client node, said request comprising at least one item of information identifying the client node; - obtaining a list of client node identifiers already allocated to client nodes active at least in the client domain; - the allocation to said first client node of a client node identifier not belonging to the list obtained; the recording in a local memory of an association between the allocated identifier and the identification information of the first client node; - sending a response to the first client node, including the allocated identifier; and - the transmission of a request for registration of the identifier allocated to the first client node in the domain to at least one traffic management server associated with the domain.
