The present invention describes a simple device modifying the mouthpieces of single reed musical instruments, such as saxophones and clarinets. The innovation consists in the insertion of one or more partitions, longitudinally in the mouthpiece, and substantially parallel to the reed. The air stream is then split into two or more parallel streams which separate and recombine further. At least one of these currents is, over part of its path, removed from the vibratory influence of the reed. This results, depending on the position, the length, the orientation and the number of these dividing partitions, an improvement in the sound emission, in particular at low level. The timbre and the sound color of the instrument are also modified. New, more subdued, more flute sounds can thus be obtained.
