Method for reinforcing an element made of thermoplastic polymer material comprising the following steps: on the one hand, an element (16) to be reinforced made of a first thermoplastic polymer material and having an applied surface (18) is provided, and on the other hand part a reinforcing strip (14) of a second thermoplastic polymer material; thermal energy is locally supplied to said application surface (18) and to said reinforcing strip (14) so as to carry the first and second thermoplastic polymers in fusion; and, said reinforcing strip (14) is applied against said application surface (18) in order to be able to weld together said reinforcing strip (14) and said element (16) to be reinforced. Plasma (34) is projected against said reinforcement strip (14) and against said application surface (18) to locally supply said thermal energy to said reinforcement strip (14) and to said application surface (18).
