Tool for using in processing pre-formed channel 31 to reduce and/or inspect local protrusions 34 on surface of channel comprising: a probe 30 with elongate stem 40 to be inserted in to channel with at least one electrode 41 electrically isolated from stem; DC power supply 50; and electrolyte solution supply 60. Preferably, plurality of electrodes are axially spaced on stem, and fully or partially surround stem. Preferably, electrodes are independently controllable via conductors 51 or axially movable and rotatable conductor. Preferably, tool provides pulses of decreasing current in a removal mode, or provides constant voltage and measures current to determine size of protrusion in an inspection mode. Preferably, electrodes receive current successively in order of electrolyte flow direction. Preferably, actuator moves tool in axial or rotational direction, and tool comprises plurality of probes of different length or cross-section.
