A vehicle comprising a gantry 3 for supporting at least one container ship hatch cover 9, with a motor to move at least one hatch cover 9 from a first location to a different second location. There may be a first trolley 13 to support the hatch cover(s) 9 driven by a motor between the locations. The gantry may comprise upper 15’ and lower levels 15”, with a trolley 13 on each level. The first location may be a hatch loading area 11a’, 11b’ and the second location may be a storage area 12’, where another trolley may move between second hatch loading 11a” 11b” and storage areas 12”. The gantry 3 may include container storage, the gantry may have a ground clearance of at least 5.7m, or between 5.7 and 14m. Also disclosed is a method for loading and unloading a container ship, where hatch covers are removed and placed on a suitable vehicle.
