A cool pack arrangement (3, fig. 2) comprising at least two planar cool packs having profiled edges which form a stepped path in between when they abut. Airflow along this path is thus minimised. The profile of a first cool pack 30 is preferably stepped 36 and the profile of a second cool pack is preferably right-angled, so that the second cool pack may stand firmly upright on the horizontally extending first cool pack. The stepped portion may be provided along the whole contour of the first cool pack, which thus forms a base, second cool packs 32-35 mating with it forming walls. The side edges of the second cool packs are preferably chamfered. Another, identical first cool pack 29 may serve as a lid. The cool pack arrangement is used in conjunction with a thermally insulated container (1, fig. 1). The container has a lid (13, fig. 4) comprising a rotatable locking portion with protrusions which are inserted into respective slots provided in the walls. Preferably there is an intermediate vacuum insulation panel assembly (54, fig. 18) between the cool pack arrangement and the walls of the container, formed by panels wrapped in a thin PVC sheet.
