Generation of VCA Reference results for VCA Auto-setting

A video surveillance system comprises a video content analytics (VCA) module and a video source; captured video data (containing at least one object) is analysed to obtain VCA results, these results are filtered to validate a subset which form VCA reference results 110 and based on these a value for a configuration parameter of the surveillance system may be evaluated 120 and changed (optimised). Filtering the VCA results may be achieved by selecting at least one VCA result according to spatial and/or temporal features of the object in frames of the video data, filtering may be based on the number of occurrences of a VCA result. The frames of video data may be transcoded. The method may further comprise selecting one configuration parameter of the system and determining optimal values for other settings within the system. The settings that may be optimized are image quality and VCA settings, for example: frame rate, compression ratio, image resolution, character size, stop criterion, and thresholds.
