A method of warning a user of an augmented reality system to potential hazards is disclosed. The system comprises a wearable AR device that provides an immersive environment to a wearer, a processor for receiving inputs relating to potential dangers to which a wearer of the wearable device may be exposed and generating an alert signal. The alert signal generating an output from the wearable device to make the wearer aware of the potential dangers. The system also comprises a feedback system to detect an acknowledgement action performed by the wearer and cause transmission to a control center of a signal indicative that the alert signal has been received and acknowledged by the wearer. The system may have one or more sensors mounted on the wearable device to detect objects close to the wearer of the wearable device and a processor to identify potential dangers to which the wearer may be exposed by the detected objects. The sensors may include at least one rear facing camera, range finding radar or sonar equipment.
