Mounting support for heat shield reinforcement

An exhaust aftertreatment system comprises a SCR system having a housing 152 with an inlet 151 and an outlet 153. At least one catalyst 154 can be positioned within the housing 152. At least one mounting support 160, eg a C-shaped or ring shaped member, is positioned around at least a portion of a perimeter of the housing 152. A heat shield 170 is positioned around the perimeter of the housing 152 such that a portion of the heat shield 170 is disposed on and in contact with the mounting support(s) 160. A space 171 exists between the housing 152 and heat shield 170 where they not in contact with the mounting support(s) 160. A clamp 180 is positioned around the portion of the heat shield 170 disposed on and in contact with the or each mounting support 160 so that the mounting support transmits the clamping force of the clamp 180 on the heat shield 170 to the housing 152 to prevent buckling of the heat shield 170 by the clamping force.
