Aircraft galley apparatus comprising a control panel 6 having at least one input means 11 for receiving a user input to control the galley apparatus; a status indicator 13 comprising light emitting means (21, figure 5) for emitting a band of light (LB, fig 5); and a processor (23, fig 5) for controlling the status indicator 13; wherein the processor (23) is configured to control the status indicator 13 to adjust an extent of the band of light (LB) by the light emitting means (21) in dependence on an operating parameter of the galley apparatus. The operating parameter may include time, temperature, power level, liquid volume or liquid temperature. The light source may also define a predefined light pattern to indicate commencement, completion or progress of an operating cycle. The light source may also provide changes to colour or adjustments to brightness depending on the selected control function of the galley apparatus.
