Light sheet microscope and sample observation method

A light sheet microscope includes an illumination optical system, a detection optical system, and an optical detector. The illumination optical system comprises: a wavelength-swept light source that outputs excitation light the wavelength of which changes with time; a spectroscopic element whereon the excitation light output from the wavelength-swept light source is incident and that emits the excitation light at an emission angle in accordance with the wavelength of the excitation light; a relay optical system including a cylindrical lens whereon the excitation light output from the spectroscopic element is incident at an incident angle in accordance with the emission angle; and a first objective lens that collects the excitation light guided by the relay optical system and irradiates a sample with a sheet of excitation light.
