Second-generation in-situ test device for strength of shallow water sediment

A boat 104 and a static cone penetration test (CPT) unit 105 for in-situ strength testing of shallow water sediment. A lifting device 103 is arranged to lower the unit 105 through a moon pool 102. The static CPT unit 105 moves the probe rod using a hydraulic cylinder connected with a pulley system (see probe rod 202, hydraulic cylinder 211 and pulley system 206-208 in Figure 5). This reduces the overall height of the CPT rig 105.
