A locking pin has a shank 8 adapted for insertion at a first forward end 9 of the shank 8 into a bore of an apparatus to be locked. The shank has a second rearward end 10 shaped to prevent the shank from fully extending through the bore of the apparatus to be locked, such as by being flanged at the rearward end 10. The forward end 9 of the shank 8 includes a substantially blind bore 13 having its major axis generally transverse to a major axis of the shank 8, a blind end of the bore 13 defining a wall through which is formed a slot 12 extending through that part of the shank 8 remote from the open end of the bore, a latch 11 received within the blind bore 13. The latch 11 has a forward end 11a shaped to extend through the slot and a rearward end 16 shaped to prevent the latch from leaving the bore through the slot, there being spring means 14 between the rearward end 16 of the latch 11 and closure means at the open end of the bore 13 remote from the slot 12. To prevent the spring means 14 from leaving the bore 13 via its open end, the arrangement being such that when the forward end 9 of the shank 8 is inserted within the bore of an apparatus to be locked, the free end of the latch 11 is retractable within the slot 12 against the bias of the spring means 14 to thereafter assume a locking position when moved beyond the bore of the apparatus being locked.
