The communication apparatus comprises at least a phase modulated spatial light modulator and a control section for controlling the operation of the phase modulated spatial light modulator.In the first frame period, the control unit operates the phase modulation type spatial light modulator with the first operation pattern and the second operation pattern.The first operation pattern includes a first light transmittable section capable of outputting the first signal light to a predetermined period within one frame period, and a first rest interval which is not capable of outputting the first signal light.The second operation pattern includes a second light transmittable section capable of outputting a second signal light in a predetermined period and a second pause section which is unable to output the second signal light.Each of the first and second light transmittable sections is longer than half the predetermined period.A second pause section exists in the first light transmittable section, and a first pause section exists in the second light transmittable section.
