PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for studying, imaging and treating pain, and a composition for studying, imaging and treating pain. Kind Code: A1 Provided are saxitoxin analog compounds, compositions, pharmaceutical compositions, methods of synthesizing saxitoxin analogs, methods of imaging, and methods of treating pain, including methods of treating pain. Saxitoxin (STX), goniotoxin (GTX), and Zetekitoxin, and mutant STX compounds are effective in binding to sodium channels and reducing or blocking the flow of sodium ions through such channels. Such channel blocks affect nerve and muscle action and may be effective to reduce or block pain sensation, relax muscles, reduce muscle spasms, and reduce wrinkles. [Selection diagram] Fig. 5
