The invention relates to a method for updating a material processing machine (1). According to the invention, prior to installing an interchangeable processing or sensor machine component (6, 7) of the material processing machine, updates (13) for the material processing machine (1), which are independent of properties of the machine components (6, 7), are stored in an electronic memory unit (11) of the machine components (6, 7) and the stored updates (13) are read out by the material processing machine (1) for updating the data thereof, after installing the machine component (6, 7).
