The present invention relates to peptides, hosts expressing such peptides, and processes for producing and screening such peptides or hosts. The invention also relates to the use of a peptide or a host expressing such a peptide in the detection of a disease, a method of constructing a library of hosts, in particular a library of phage expressing a peptide. The invention also relates to a library of hosts expressing peptides and their use in the treatment of diseases, eg for detecting molecules and/or cells in a sample. The present invention has application in the technical fields of therapeutic and diagnostic medicine.
