This method of detecting a fall of a worker attached to an anchoring device comprises steps of: a) measuring (102) a worker's orientation, using a six-point orientation sensor axes embedded in a fall detection device secured to the worker; b) calculating (104) statistical quantities representative of the measured orientation; c) comparing (106) statistical quantities with reference values, a fall being considered detected only if the statistical quantities correspond with the reference values according to predefined criteria, the comparison being carried out by means of an automatic classifier.
