The present disclosure includes methods of making cells or tissues from pre-existing cells having one or more mutant Yap variants. In a specific embodiment, the disclosure relates to treatment of pre-existing cardiomyocytes with one or more mutant Yap variants that divide to give rise to new cardiomyocytes. In a specific case, the mutant Yap variant has a serine to alanine substitution at one, two, three, four, five, six, or more serines of Yap. [Selection diagram] None
