Needle Impedance Electromyography and Electrical Impedance Imaging for Enhanced Muscle Diagnosis

Described herein are embodiments of methods and devices for diagnosing neuromuscular disease using an Impedance-EMG needle and methods and devices for generating electrical impedance images using an impedance needle. Some embodiments provide a device that includes an impedance-EMG needle that includes both an EMG electrode and an impedance electrode to measure both active and passive electrical properties of a muscle. Another embodiment provides an apparatus including an impedance needle, the impedance needle including a plurality of impedance electrodes for measuring impedance in tissue surrounding the impedance needle to produce an electrical impedance image. The use of such methods and devices may be advantageous in improving the accuracy of neuromuscular disease assessment and diagnosis.
