A digital holographic interferometer (100) produces two reference beams (F11, F12) to form, separately from each other, interference with a measurement beam (F2). In this way, an image that is captured has two interference pattern patterns, with fringes of one of the patterns intersecting fringes of the other pattern. It is then possible to analyze a transparent medium irrespective of the orientation of a refractive index gradient of this medium, perpendicular to the measurement beam. The interferometer makes it possible to characterize a transparent fluid flow in real time, especially when the flow is unsteady, or when it comprises a density step, a shock wave, or a vortex.
