The present invention is directed to a Method for producing a heating mat for a vehicle component, comprising the steps of:providing a flexible, porous carrier layer (2),connecting a heating conductor (4) to the carrier layer (2) to extend along the carrier layer in a predetermined pattern, andfixing a temperature sensor (6) on the carrier layer (2) at a predetermined position and providing electric connections (8) to the temperature sensor for sensing a signal indicative of the temperature of the temperature sensor,characterized in that the temperature sensor (6) is fixed on the carrier layer by depositing temperature sensitive material having a temperature dependent resistivity on the carrier layer (2) in a spatially selective manner to form a conductor path of predefined dimensions and at least partially penetrating the carrier layer (2).
