A sheet molding compound according to a first aspect of the present invention comprises:a thickened product of a resin composition comprising the following component (A), the following component (B), the following component (C), the following component (D) and the following component (E1); anda reinforcing fiber,component (A): at least one of a vinyl ester resin and an unsaturated polyester resin;component (B): a thickener;component (C): a polymerization initiator;component (D): a polymerization inhibitor;component (E1): an ethylenically unsaturated compound which is not thermally cured in the absence of a polymerization initiator.
