A motor-brake unit (4) for a winch (1) is disclosed and includes: a motor (100) comprising a rotor (102) connected to a motor shaft (104) and a stator (101) connected to a housing (103), with the rotor (102) being capable of rotating around a rotation axis (D) relative to the stator (101) through the motor shaft (104); and a brake (200) having at least one first brake body (210) and at least one second brake body (220) connected or connectable, in an anti-torque manner, to the motor shaft (104) about the rotation axis (D), wherein the at least one first brake body (210) and the at least one second brake body (220) can be pressed against each other to provide a friction-based braking effect. The housing (103) has a cup-shaped portion (105) into which the brake (200) is inserted or can be inserted, so that the brake (200) is at least partially surrounded by the cup-shaped portion (105).
